The meaning of moemoeā

Moemoeā is a Māori word. I am not Māori, but resonate deeply with Te reo Māori as well as some other languages. Words hold and transmit certain energies, and I see certain images when I tune into them. Moemoeā "came" to me in a dream: I woke up in the middle of the night and wrote it down - not knowing if it was an "existing" word or something I had made up... When I looked it up the next morning I saw that it was actually a "real" word! And it fitted perfectly for what I had in mind and heart: dream, vision, hope...

As is true for many languages, one sometimes cannot translate a word 1:1 into another language. When translating books I mostly don't translate 1:1, but rather tune into the imagery that certain words evoke and then translate them into words that evoke a similar atmosphere and similar images in the other language. Māori language is a very picturesque language and paints a lot of colours and emotions in my head/heart. So "moemoeā" holds more than a single word translation could transmit :) For me, it is a beautiful sound picture of that space/time of dreams and visions that we can all tap into.
